Jay Bhatia did his initial schooling in Mumbai and completed LLM at the St. Louis University School of Law, Missouri, USA, in 2001.
Jay has worked with various law firms in Mumbai, USA and London before founding JKB Legal in 2003.
Jay has over 25 years of experience as a litigation, corporate, commercial, banking and immigration lawyer. Jay represents several Fortune 500 companies, government undertakings, publicly listed companies, politicians and political parties.
He represented the Government of India at the Bombay High Court as a senior counsel from 2010 to 2017. He represented the government in several landmark cases. Jay appears before several courts i.e. Supreme Court of India, Bombay High Court, City Civil & Sessions Court, Magistrate Courts, Debt Recovery Tribunal, Debt recovery, Appellate Tribunal, National Company Law Tribunals, Family Courts, Small Causes Court, Co-operative Courts, RERA Tribunal amongst others.
Jay has served on the board of directors of Fortune 500 corporations in India, such as Fox Television Studios, Dow Jones Consulting, and Wall Street Journal. He continues to advise various multinational companies in India and globally on matters including India entry strategies, business operations, and legal compliance.
With expertise in global immigration laws, Jay has worked closely with Mr. Gene McNary, former Commissioner of the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (INS), USA, gaining valuable insights into immigration practices. He advises clients on global migration, citizenship by investment, residency programs, and immigration goals, including strategies related to source of funds and choice of jurisdictions.
Jay is a frequent speaker and panelist at business and legal seminars, chambers of commerce events, television programs, and international conferences, sharing his expertise with diverse audiences.
Anoop, an alumnus of Mumbai University, has more than 28 years of experience as a criminal lawyer and leads the firm’s criminal law and white-collar crimes practice.
He handles legal issues relating to Indian Penal Code, Foreign Exchange Management Act, Customs, Central Excise, Companies Act, Human Rights, and MOCA cases among others. He also handles all type of criminal trial matters.
Prior to joining JKB Legal, Anup was assisting senior criminal lawyer Mr. P.R. Vakil and has handled various high profile and sensitive cases. He has worked on the prosecution and defence briefs of various high-profile clients from the Magistrate, Sessions, High Courts and to the Supreme Court of India.
He was the associate public prosecutor in 2004 for State of Gujarat in the Best Bakery case (Gujarat riots), in which he was able to secure the conviction of nine accused.
Anup has represented large corporate houses, foreign and nationalized banks and famous personalities.
Shirin leads the Pune practice at the firm with over 24 years of experience as a versatile lawyer specializing in litigation, property, family law, adoptions, documentation, and commercial matters. She was selected for the Ford Foundation scholar batch at ILS Law College, Pune, where she consistently ranked first and received two Gold Medals for her exceptional performance in her LL.B. program.
